Zambia car rentals

Zambia is truly one of southern Africa’s gems and is a favorite destination for Americans in search of genuine adventure. Here, massive canyons, savannah and towering waterfalls serve as the backdrop for some of the most intriguing cultures on Earth.

Travelers’ favorites

The country’s most-visited treasure is the phenomenal Victoria Falls, which roar into the hearts of visitors gawking out over the Batoka Gorge. Meanwhile, venturing into the bush at South Luangwa National Park makes for some of the best wildlife-watching in all of Africa, while heading to Lake Kariba via car hire offers plenty of great fishing opportunities; the area is also perfect for those just looking to kick back in the sunshine. For even more world-class safari adventures, head to Lower Zambezi National Park to catch a glimpse of wild elephants, hippopotamus and a wide array of bird species.

Best time to visit

Tropical Zambia sees a wet season, a dry season and a hot season. The wet season is best for birdwatchers and lasts from November to mid-April, while other wildlife watchers will be better off in the hot season, which stretches from September through most of November. The cool season is the most comfortable however and over local holidays, be sure to compare car hire and tour rates before setting off for your trip.

Driving in Zambia

To the dismay of Americans, Zambians observe left-hand (British) driving rules and roadways can be very hazardous for those looking for car hire. Because of this, many opt to travel via tour companies, which function much as a car rental with the added bonus of a driver. However, rentals are available and usually come fully stocked for the bush.
