British Virgin Islands car rentals
The postcard-perfect scenery of British Virgin Islands waits just a few hours from Miami and offers by far one of the Caribbean’s most treasured destinations. Here, turquoise waters lap white-sand beaches and gentle rocky shores, while the locals prefer cold drinks, reggae and dancehall music and taking life at a slower pace. This archipelago is very much what most travelers expect from a Caribbean holiday.
Travelers’ favorites
The main port and largest city in the British Virgin Islands, Road Town, is the starting point for most visits and offers good shopping and nightlife. However, most are eager to move on to the islands’ stunning beauty in places like the massive, Hawaii-like cliffs of neighboring Jost Van Dyke island, or the gentle pools and crystal clear waters amid boulders and white sands on the phenomenal island of Virgin Gorda. But those without sea transportation can grab a car rental and head for other great spots on Tortola, including the lovely resorts on beautiful Long Bay or near the airport on Beef Island.
Best time to visit
The British Virgin Islands see temperatures in the 80s year-round can be enjoyed at any time, although most prefer to avoid the risk of tropical storms and hurricanes from June through November. Peak tourist season is December, January and around Easter, which is also the drier part of the year; compare car hire and resort rates beforehand if you’re planning to visit during this time.
Driving in the British Virgin Islands
Car hire can be useful if you’re staying on Tortola or Virgin Gorda, as it enables visitors to reach all the great beaches via the islands’ scenic roadways. Roads are narrow and locals tend to have erratic driving habits however, so use extra caution, particularly at night.
