Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago car rentals

Just a few-hour flight from Miami is Trinidad and Tobago, a diverse nation of fantastic beaches, lush rainforests and infectious music. Here, visitors can delve into a vast array of cultures through food, music and dance before heading off for some diving amid the splendor of the country’s fantastic coral reefs. This is Trinidad and Tobago, and it’s available nonstop from the US!

Travelers’ favorites

The capital Port of Spain is the gateway to the country and despite its somewhat rugged appearance is one of the best tourist attractions in the region, if for none other than its famous steel-pan music and provocative, vibrant annual carnival festival. Not far away, a few hundred meters offshore from the smaller but equally inviting island of Tobago are colorful underwater canyons and flourishing fish species. Meanwhile, some visitors prefer to grab a rental car and head to Trinidad’s fantastic Asa Wright Nature Centre for excellent bird watching before a beautiful drive to the lush coastal mountain range in the north, where fabulous hiking opportunities await.

Best time to visit

The latitude of Trinidad and Tobago makes for temperatures that vary little throughout the year, daily highs are almost always in the mid to upper 80s. Most visitors prefer the dry season (December to May) although the wetter season (June to November) can bring about great deals. Those visiting during or close to carnival (February) must compare car hire and hotel rates far ahead of time and advance booking is essential.

Driving in Trinidad and Tobago

American drivers are able to use a car hire in Trinidad and Tobago without an international permit. However, roads can be in poor condition, particularly during the wet season. Driving is done on the right-hand side of the road, although some locals use left-hand drive vehicles.
