Car rentals Serbia
Still a fresh democracy in many ways, Serbia remains a growing entity among Europe’s many great tourist destinations. Nonetheless, Americans headed for this small, land-locked gem will find it packs a big punch for its size. Highlights include stunning mountain views, shimmering lakes, grand architecture, great skiing and fascinating cultural and historical attractions.
Travelers’ favorites
The political, cultural and economic heart of Serbia, Belgrade, is the country’s primary starting point and a great destination in its own right; it features fantastic cuisine, great museums and architecture as well as a thriving nightlife scene. Meanwhile, those exploring by car rental can bask in the pine-studded hills and mountains in the southern part of the country, while music fans may want to time a visit with the annual Exit Festival in Novi Sad, which features artists from around the world. Alternatively, head to the monasteries of Vojvodina for some authentic peace and quiet.
Best time to visit
Serbia has two main travel seasons; ski season, running from December to March, and the traditional European summer travel season, which is the busier of the two. Early fall can be an exceptionally pleasant time to visit, as temperatures are often perfect and the crowds are minimal. In winter, visitors should be sure to compare car hire options, as a well-equipped 4WD vehicle might be a good idea.
Driving in Serbia
Because many of the most beautiful attractions in Serbia are difficult to reach without personal transportation, car hire is recommended for visitors. Like in the US, driving is done on the right-hand side of the road. The country’s main roads are generally well maintained, however some rural routes can be in particularly poor shape.
