Saint Lucia

Car rentals Saint Lucia

The island-nation of Saint Lucia is more than just another Caribbean resort getaway; in addition to sun-kissed beaches and expensive resorts, the island boasts a fantastic mountainous interior and locals as inviting as the blaring reggae melodies found around the island. This, combined with the proximity of this great tropical destination to the US, Saint Lucia remains a fantastic option for Americans looking for a unique island vacation.

Traveler favorites

A large portion of visitors headed to Saint Lucia spend all or much of their stay in beautiful Marigot Bay, which boasts lush surrounding hills and the iconic and pristine Reduit Beach as well as a good helping of top-notch resorts. Meanwhile, the capital of Castries offers plenty of inviting sights, sounds and smells as well as plenty of shopping, while during season some visitors head to Vigie Cove in the hope of spotting whales. There’s also plenty of nature walks in places like once-hostile Pigeon Island National Park and the lovely Maria Islands Nature Reserve, which are best reached via car rental.

Best time to visit

Like all of its Caribbean neighbors, Saint Lucia sees most of its visitors from December to April when snowbirds flock from North America and Europe. However, the weather can be great anytime of year and high temperatures rarely veer out of the 80s year-round. Be aware that the Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June to October, but this can be a great time to avoid crowds and to compare car hire and hotel rates to the much higher figures seen in other seasons.

Driving in Saint Lucia

Despite some steep grades and a substantial amount of potholes, road conditions are manageable in most parts of Saint Lucia and car hire is a great option for visitors, particularly for those looking to experience the island’s fantastic interior. However, a 4WD may be a good idea for some. Saint Lucians drive on the left side of the road.
