Car rentals Poland

Poland has a great combination of historical and modern architecture and although it is one of Europe’s least visited countries, it offers a rewarding holiday. Its stunning landscapes, beautiful countryside, Baltic beaches, salt mines and rivers are all fantastic attractions and Americans will generally find the locals quite welcoming.

Travelers’ favorites

The capital, Warsaw is the main gateway to the country and worth a few-day visit. The district of Centrum is where most of the attractions can be found including the Palace of Culture and Science, the Royal Castle and the National Gallery. North towards the Baltic Sea is the Gothic town of Torun and the medieval costal city of Gdansk. Both are worth visiting for their stunning architecture and are easily reachable from the capital with a car rental.

East of the capital is the commercial town of Poznan and its Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island) and old town square Stary Rynek make it a popular destination. Equally fascinating are the historic city of Wroclaw and the cultural Krakow. Auschwitz is also on many itineraries and attracts thousands of visitors each year. All of these are quickly accessible via car hire.

Best time to visit

Most Americans find that the best time to visit is from May to October when the country sees warmer weather, although Poland can be visited year round. July and August are the busiest months and some areas can get quite busy and accommodation is more expensive. Skiers will enjoy visiting Poland in the winter.

Driving in Poland

Roads throughout Poland are not as good as in other parts of the continent and driving can sometimes seem slow. But for those with patience it can be a fantastic way to explore the beautiful countryside. There are some peculiar driving laws in Poland and all car hire drivers should make themselves aware of them before attempting to drive. Car rental is not cheap; shop around to compare car hire prices thoroughly.
