Car Rentals in Mauritius
The Indian Ocean has some beautiful islands but few are better or more developed for the American tourist than Mauritius. The beaches are superb, and the water clear to enjoy diving, swimming, snorkeling and windsurfing. It’s called a paradise island and those who come here would be hard put to argue with that. The car rental is easy to arrange, and as a holiday destination there are plenty of choice when looking to compare car hire.
Travelers Favorites
The stunning beaches are what really attracts tourists to the Indian Ocean island and this has been the case ever since the Mauritius people realized the potential of their small paradise. Resorts are plentiful so its simply a matter of choosing one and heading straight from the airport to the pure white sand. Grand Bay is a favorite spot, not only because of its fabulous beach but it’s also a great place for shopping and restaurants. Bear in mind the seafood here is as fresh as it can be.
To the south east of the island there is Blue Bay where the winds attract those who enjoy sailing and windsurfing, whilst on the Belle Mare there is simply miles of fine white sand for lazing around. As an alternative to the sea and the sand the Balaclava Ruins provide a glimpse of the history of the island which is still has the French and English influences of the past.
Best Time to Visit
The drier season is between August and February and the north and west side of the island tend to be drier than the central areas. But this is a place where the temperature never drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit and rises in the summer months to 35. It’s an ideal winter getaway and those from the North American states would welcome the opportunity to come here for a winter vacation.
Driving in Mauritius
Although there are strong connections to Europe with the Dutch, Portuguese and French all having some say in the affairs of Mauritius, the British were the last to leave. In doing so they left their legacy of left hand driving and right hand drive car rental. So for Americans it’s going to be a case of driving on the ‘wrong side’ But getting around the island by car hire is simple and the roads system is basic with one main road across the island and another which heads south. Some smaller roads simply finish at the coast.
