Car Rental In Macedonia
In tourist terms, Macedonia is doing very well and figures show a steady rise in figures and Americans are among the many nationalities coming here. Many will take the opportunity to book a car rental. Flights to Skopje are available from several points in Europe, although there are no direct routes from the states. Car hire is available within the country in Skopje, Tetovo, and Strumica.

When tourists came to this region in previous decades, this was an area overshadowed by Greece. But that has changed and the historic influences of the Ottoman Empire, the Islamic religion and the local cultures have made Macedonia quite unique. Just a mile from the center of Skopje is the Citfe Amam, which is an ancient Turkish style bathhouse that used by men and women back in the 1500s. Now it is an art gallery but the main buildings of the baths are still in place. The main town of Skopje also has the landmark fortress of Kale, and the old part of the city is a real mix of European and eastern cultures.
The old markets where the majority of trading took place is still operating as a bazaar and set close by to this ancient trading center is the Byzantine Clock Tower.
Best time to visit
The periods around May and October takes are great times to visit Macedonia. However, the majority visits during the summer months of June, July and August when there is a good chance of sunny days and warm weather. During this time, visitors come from across Europe and America to this newly created state. Be sure to book hotels and compare car hire in advance during this peak season.
Driving in Macedonia
The infrastructure of this country is gradually improving and from Skopje to the other parts of the country the roads are in good shape. The lakes at Ohrid are well worth the trip and be sure to take in the smaller towns of Prelip and Bitola en route. The minimum age for a car rental is 21, but this can go up to 25 depending on the type of car rental.
