Car Rental in Luxembourg

Renowned as being the epicenter of Europe, this Grand Duchy has gained all sorts of reputations. But as the heart of the continent it’s a great place to use as a base for touring the neighboring countries of Germany, France and Belgium. American visitors will be able to arrive from any one of the main cities and then take the car rental from a depot in Luxembourg or from one of the nearby airports. The rail links on the TGV provide another option for travel to Luxembourg.

Travelers’ favorites

Whilst this is a country that can be the springboard for trips to Germany and France, Luxembourg has its own attractions. This is the only Grand Duchy in the world so there are some significant castles and architectural sights to see. American visitors may be keen to see the General Patton War Museum at Ettelbrook, which has become known as Patton Town.

Another place to make for in this small landlocked country is the Viaden Castle, which is from the 14th century and typifies the European fortresses of the time. Set on a hilltop, this is the sort of scene that international visitors associate with Luxembourg and the center of Europe. The castle was faithfully restored in 1977 and now looks as it did when originally constructed.

Best time to visit

The summer months from May through to September are the best times to visit Luxembourg. Although the winters are not as harsh as other countries on the continent, the most attractive aspects of the grand duchy are in the summer. Mid September is a good time to visit as there is the world famous Wine and Grape Festival on the go in Grevenmacher.

Driving in Luxembourg

Touring around the country is easy and there are tremendous opportunities to use the European highways to visit places further afield. There are some 100 miles of roads that traverse Luxembourg en route to Germany in particular. So as a base, this is a great place for getting a car rental. The license holder for European car hire has to have been driving for at least two years and be aged 21 or above. The cars are good quality and there will most likely a chance to compare car hire with German, French or Italian vehicles.
