Car Rental in Lithuania

The Baltic country of Lithuania borders the Baltic Sea and is sandwiched between Latvia and Belarus. It’s an easy place to get to from the European air hubs of Berlin, Frankfurt, Stockholm or Dublin and getting a car rental is a convenient option for touring this part of Europe. American visitors can also use the good connections via Amsterdam for their trip across to the region.

Travelers Favorites

The old capital of Trakai is just 20 miles west of the new and bigger capital city of Vilnius, and here Lake Galve has the fine looking castle nestled on a small island. This is one of the most popular attractions travelers from within the country as well as international visitors with car hire. Lithuania is a largely agricultural country, and to recognize this aspect of life there is the Rumšiškės Museum just off the Vilnius to Kaunus main highway. The museum has displays relating to the type of machinery used with four re-created farmsteads.

The capital city of Vilnius is another good place to discover the history of a country which is almost in the center of Europe. The old town features the 17th Century Baroque Church of St Peter and Paul, whilst the new shopping malls provide the opportunity to get some good inexpensive items to take home.

Best Time to visit

The summer months along the shores of the Baltic Sea are busy with vacationers, as the best time to visit. The period between May and October is the warmest by far while springtime is also a good time to come to Lithuania as the air is fresher and the new flowers are in bloom.

Driving in Lithuania

The roads all around this region are decent though not entirely well maintained. The main highways that connect the cities are fine, but there are also side roads that are still used mainly by the farming community. In there lies the charm of the country, so American visitors with a car hire can explore the smaller towns and villages, as well as the big cities of Vilnius and Kaunus.
