The Baltic region has developed a great deal over the last decade and in terms of tourism, none more so than Latvia. Encouraged by its position on the Baltic Sea, this small country has embraced the rest of Europe and tourists from as far away as America. Car rental is a good option here and cars can be collected in Riga, either in the airport or in the city depots.

Latvia has all the natural attractions for a good vacation including beaches and plenty of history. The traditional fishing villages of the coast have changed little, so Latvia is amongst the most genuine of tourist locations in Europe; Bauska Castle as one great example.
As a country that has retained much of its old architecture, UNESCO has awarded Latvia with recognition of six locations as World Heritage Sites, and amongst these is the old quarter of Riga. The capital is set on the coast and has developed a reputation for both its heritage and its entertainment scene. The national opera has perhaps the most evocative building while nightlife is also vibrant in the area.
Best time to visit
High season is the period from May through to September. The hottest times are in July and August. This is the best time to visit Latvia, although springtime brings out the best in the palaces and castle gardens. The best car rental rates can be found on compare car hire sites throughout the year.
Driving in Latvia
Getting car hire is no problem at all in Latvia the cost of car rentals has dropped dramatically in recent years. Americans will need an international driving permit and must be at least 18 years of age to rent.
