Car rentals Jordan

The easiest place to collect a car rental in Jordan is at the Queen Alia Airport in the country capital of Amman. There are direct flights from New York on the national carrier, Royal Jordanian, and plenty of car hire options in the airport. There are both international and local operators here as well as on-site services. Others have an off-airport office but will often meet and greet arriving passengers.

Travelers’ favorites

Historically, Jordan is one of the oldest and richest countries in the world in terms of cultural heritage. Like any capital city, Amman has all the central attractions, nightlife and a good entertainment scene. With fabulous cuisine, coffee shops and restaurants, visitors’ vacation time could be well spent in the Jordanian capital.

But this is a country which related directly to biblical times with the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, as well as the magnificent temples of Petra. This city was hewn into the sandstone rock some 2,000 years ago, and is a World Heritage Site of UNESCO. The coastal areas have been developed such that many visitors come to enjoy the easy swimming and the fine diving locations, so the car hire in Jordan can be great for getting to the various locations.

Best Time to Visit

There is no denying Jordan gets very hot in the summer months, and to the surprise of many, Amman gets quite cold in the winter. The best times to visit are generally in the cooler months of April and May, with the hottest times in July and August. On-site excursions to the desert regions and famous places such as Petra are best done in the cooler morning time before the fierce heat sets in. Its worth remembering that deserts can get quite cool in the evening so some warm clothing is handy to have on an overnight excursion.

Driving in Jordan

Roads of Jordan are generally straight and narrow. In the city, there is the usual hustle and bustle but generally this is as straightforward as vacation driving gets. The ancient cities do have restrictions and in Petra the car rental has to be left at the perimeter. To save the walk there are horse-drawn carriages or even horses for hire.
