Car Rental in Jamaica
Traveling around the island of Jamaica is made all the easier by having a car rental booked. Easily collected at the main airport in the capital of Jamaica, visitors will have the advantage of being able to choose vacation destinations out along the coast or inland. Jamaica is convenient for Americans who can fly in from New York and Chicago, with Miami being the most popular springboard for flights to all the Caribbean islands.
Travelers Favorite’s
Kingston is the vibrant capital of Jamaica and is famous for reggae music, cricket and a laid back atmosphere. But out on the rest of the island there are amazing beaches and great opportunities for activities such as scuba diving, swimming or simply lounging on a stretch of pure white sand.
Montego Bay remains one of the favorite resorts for tourists who enjoy an exciting nightlife as well as lovely Caribbean waters. Getting to other major resorts of Negril and Ocho Rios is simple enough with car hire from Kingston, but dotted along the coast there are quieter locations and some very exclusive resort hotels. Inland there is the Blue Mountain Peak, where a hike to the summit viewing point offers great views across the island and out to sea as far as Cuba.
Best Time to Visit
Getting away from the cold harsh winters of the Northern states is a good enough reason to head south to the Caribbean. This is what many Americans do and they choose the period between December and April to enjoy the warmer climes found in Jamaica. Although there are the occasional hurricane storms in this part of the world, Jamaica has a generally warm year round climate.
Driving in Jamaica
The island has a decent road network which connects Kingston with the resort locations on the opposite side of the island. The roads can be a bit rough in places, making the jeep a favorite vehicle in Jamaica.
The major international car hire companies all have a presence here so it’s worth it to compare car hire options. On a cautionary note, these are the ones to use as there are some smaller companies whose terms and service may not be up to international standards.
