Iceland Car hire
Iceland is a very unique holiday destination characterized by ice and volcanoes. The island is located in the far north of the North Atlantic Ocean and is part of Europe as well. Iceland is very easy for American travelers to reach and there are many direct flights from several air gateways around the USA. One of the best ways to explore is by using car rental.
Iceland’s hotspots
Iceland is full of national parks, naturally heated swimming pools and a wide range of diverse bird species. There are three big parks that must be visited when in Iceland: Vatnajokull National Park, Thingvellir Park and Snaefellsjokull National Park. All of these parks are interesting geological sites featuring beautiful lakes, glaciers and active volcanoes. The parks can be driven to and through and this is a good reason to use car hire.
As well as boasting amazing outdoor spaces, Iceland is home to some lovely cities. The capital of Reykjavik is a modern place and has some historic spots too. The city is very picturesque and must-see attractions include the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, Kringlan, a large shopping mall, the Reykjavik Art Museum and the National Museum of Iceland.
Weather
Generally the climate of Iceland is very cool compared to most American locations. The summer months from May to September though are pleasant and mild and the days are long; this is by far the best time for a visit. Be aware that because Iceland has many active volcanoes that weather conditions can change at anytime, but this is part of what makes this country so unique.
Driving conditions
American travelers choosing car rental in Iceland must take note that some of the roads are very narrow and the mountain roads have loose gravel. Compare car hire before arriving in the busy summer months to get a better deal.
