Honduras is located in Central America and shares borders with Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. Honduras has seen a large increase in American visitors over the last few years, especially the Bay Islands. What to see and do

Honduras is a mix of old and new and was heavily influenced by the Spanish during the colonial times. There are numerous amazing buildings bearing Spanish influence such as the Cathedral of Comayagua. The capital of Tegucigalpa is a thriving city with some modern parts but is also great for experiencing the culture.

One of the most famous sites in the country is Copan. Copan is a wonderful ancient Mayan city and will take your breath away. The stunning Bay Islands are also another popular attraction amongst American travelers and these are easy to reach from the mainland by sea or by air. Honduras also boasts large quantities of unspoiled rainforest and using car rental is a great way to explore all the sites.

Climate

In general the climate is tropical. However, due to topography, you can also expect to find many microclimates in this small country. Generally, the temperature throughout the year hovers around the mid 80s and the rainy season goes from about May until October. If you want to avoid rain and make the best of car hire then the best time to visit is November to March.

Driving in Honduras

Driving in any foreign country can be daunting. In comparison with other Central American countries, driving in Honduras is relatively safe, although the roads in the large cities are fairly good but in the rural areas they are poorly maintained. Compare car hire prices in the capital city and you will definitely find a great deal. All you need is a valid international driving license.
