Haiti
Haiti car hire
American travelers who want to visit a tropical island usually would go for Jamaica or a similar destination. However, for something different that offers excellent value, Haiti is a surprisingly good choice. This small country features good snorkeling, diving and hiking alongside a unique culture.
Haiti’s attractions
The capital of the island is Port-au-Prince and this city is still being rebuilt following the recent earthquake. However are some lovely things to do and see here. Many of the historic buildings on the island are left from the French and some of the best places to visit include Marche de Fer and the La Citadelle National Historic Park. The Haiti Art Museum is also a great place to visit and can be found in Port Au Prince. The best way to explore the city and countryside is by using car hire, which is best acquired from the airport in Port au Prince.
Climate
The weather in Haiti is in general humid and warm year-round, but most tourists choose to come between December and April. Haiti experiences a long rainy season and also suffers from hurricanes during the Atlantic hurricane season, especially around September, which is best avoided.
Driving in Haiti
Although Haiti is close to the USA, road conditions differ heavily. Streets are not properly maintained and can be quite hazardous, particularly in the wet season. Compare car hire companies to find the ideal vehicle for your stay; an SUV might be the best choice, especially if you’re headed inland.
