Guernsey

Guernsey Car hire

Guernsey is one of the UK’s famous Channel Islands located close to the northwest coast of France. The island is packed with stunning towns boasting traditional English feel and this is a big attraction for many American travelers. The island is easy to reach by ferry from Mainland UK and from France as well. There is also a small airport, which handles flights from other places in the UK.

Travelers’ favorites

Guernsey is packed with parks, heritage sites and many traditional English villages. If you like the outdoors, then places like Talbot Valley are great for long walks and for enjoying the splendid countryside. Le Gouffre is a rocky area where you can try out some long cliff walks while overlooking the ocean. Les Videclins Farm is also good to see. These places are all easy to reach when using car hire.

As well as boasting natural sites, it also boasts some wonderful museums such as the Fort Grey and Shipwreck Museum. Other heritage buildings to visit include the Victor Hugo House, Rousse Headland, the Pleinmont Observation Tower and Les Fouaillages, which is an ancient burial mound.

Weather

Many Americans enjoy the Guernsey weather because it’s quite mild. The island experiences a long summer where the temperatures are pleasant; this stretches from May to the end of October. Even winter in Guernsey isn’t as cold as mainland UK and this is a good reason to visit the island. In the winter, the island is picturesque and often boasts clear, crisp skies. Car rental is a popular mode of transport and great for visits anytime of the year.

Driving in Guernsey

Driving on the island is easy and readily available in St Peter Port. The roads follow the UK standards (left-hand drive) although some of the rural roads aren’t well lit at night but nerveless are still ok to drive on at a slower speed. Americans need an international driving permit to rent a car.
