French Polynesia

French Polynesia car hire

The tiny islands that make up French Polynesia are found directly in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean. The closest large country to the islands is New Zealand or the west coast countries of South America. Using car hire is a popular way to explore the island.

Highlights

Most towns are located on coastal roads that circle each island. To the north, you can visit Mahina, to the east Hitiaa Te Ra and the south is home to Mataiea and Papara. If you use car rental on a given island it is possible to explore almost the entire thing in just a day or two.

Places worth visiting may include the Gauguin Museum, the Huahine Nui Pearls and Pottery and the Lagoonaruim. There are also some small islands and large stretches of amazingly intact beach areas. Such lovely beaches boast clear water and soft white sand.

Weather

The islands generally experience hot weather year-round. However during May to October, it’s less humid and generally more bearable for American travelers. It is possible to fly to the islands from the USA almost all times of the year.

Driving in French Polynesia

The large roads on the islands are well paved and are well looked after. Smaller roads sometimes are not and these roads must be explored with caution. When in the towns, be aware that even though there are road rules locals don’t generally abide by them. When comparing car hire in French Polynesia it is advisable to ask the renter about the roads.
