Car hire Finland

The beautiful Nordic country of Finland is a stunning place to visit and has plenty of great sights to wow American visitors. There are 188,000 lakes in Finland, making it one of the best places for fishing, sailing, diving and swimming. The summers are surprisingly mild, although the winters can be ferocious.

Car rental in Finland is a great way to see more of the country, from watching the Northern Lights to visiting the bustling cities such as Helsinki. Nearby, Russia and Sweden can be accessed, although Finland has many of its own attractions that could last a lifetime trying to see each one. It’s best for US travelers to compare car hire beforehand as buying after you land can be very expensive.

Best attractions to see

Turku has many historical sights, museums and art galleries to see, and for those looking for traditional Finnish housing, check out Porvoo; the picturesque, wooden houses are something completely out-of-this-world. The Hameenlinna Castle is a stunning 13th century defense structure and while you’re staying in Finland, try a sauna or a thermal bath to rejuvenate your skin.

Cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, whitewater rafting and canoeing are popular due to the amount of water and snowfall during the winter months. There are many festivals in the summer, which is the best time to go. Among favorites are the Tuska Open Air, Pori Jazz, or the electronic/indie festival of Flow, for the younger generation.

Best time to stay

The summer is without doubt the best time to go, as the winters are miserable and barely receive any daylight. The summers can be quite warm with temperatures in the 60s, but there’s little chance of getting a suntan in Finland.

There are no visa requirements for American travelers and thanks to the Schengen Agreement, tourists are free to roam on to other areas of Europe on the same arrival stamp.
