El Salvador

Car rental in El Salvador

Bordering Honduras and Guatemala, El Salvador is a wonderful place to visit. Many Americans head there each year for the stunning mountain views, volcanoes, the beautiful lakes and to meet the friendly people. Car hire in El Salvador is a great way for those from the US to get around. Salvadorians drive on the right and although the roads aren’t as smooth as in the US, they are easy to navigate.

For low cost rentals, compare car hire prices online before you leave, as there is usually a premium to pay if you don’t book in advance. A $10 fee is required for entrance and buys you a 14-day visa for most citizens, but for Americans there is no charge for visas.

Tourists’ favorite attractions

From beautiful secluded beaches to the 25 volcanoes in the country, there are many things to see and do. There are many fishing villages that can be accessed using a hire car and offer the best chance to see the true El Salvador. The capital has a vibrant nightlife and a bustling restaurant scene with bars and discos aplenty.

Some of the world’s best surfing opportunities are here in El Salvador at La Libertad, El Este and El Zonte. It’s fast becoming one of the hotspots for surfing and windsurfing in the whole of Central America. With some flights from the US taking less than four hours, it’s a quick way to catch some surf action.

Best time to go

From May to October is the rainy season, but it’s still hot and the rains can take the edge off the humidity. Easter is a great time to go, as there are large carnival events and partying going on. From November through to April is the dry season but temperatures creep well into the 90s during this time. Christmas is another great time to go, as is New Years, for the clatter of firecrackers and the week-long partying stint.
