Dominican Republic
Car rental Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is part of the beautiful Hispaniola Island in the Caribbean and is one of the finest and most popular places that Americans head to each year. It’s a short flight from the States and you’ll arrive in paradise. Car hire in the Dominican Republic is a great idea as public transport is slow and unreliable. To make your dollars stretch a little bit further, compare car hire before you arrive.
Although most of the terrain is rugged, an SUV will be able to handle it. From La Romana in the east to Monte Cristi in the west, the country can be driven across within a day and having a hire car allows you to stop off at different resorts, villages and beaches along the way.
Travelers’ favorites
American travelers can fly direct from New York, Philadelphia, Charlotte and Atlanta, and visas can be purchased in the airport. The country is made up of mostly national parks and that means there are tour guides who will take you trekking through the dense forests. Santo Domingo is where the large, luxury hotels are situated and it is the cosmopolitan part of the country. The Bay of Samana is one of the prettiest places on Earth and has stunning, white sandy beaches.
Snorkeling, scuba diving, sport fishing and sampling the amazing seafood restaurants should all be on tourists’ to-do lists. Playa Bonita (pretty beach) is one of the favorites amongst locals and foreigners and is where the majority of American tourists head.
Best time to stay
From June through to October, hurricanes are expected so it’s best not to travel at that time. Although there are few seasons, it’s mainly hot and dry or hot and wet in the rainforests. The daytime rainfall helps cool you down, but it does bring intense humidity the further inland you are. Coastal regions enjoy sea breezes and warm waters.
