Car hire Czech Republic
For US travelers, the Czech Republic is a good place to go to for stunning architecture, nice lakes and mountains. This little, land-locked country borders Austria, Poland and Germany and takes influences from each in terms of food and culture. Compare car hire before you head to the country as hire cars can be expensive if you rent one from the airport.
Car rental allows you to get around the towns and cities more easily, from Prague to Brno or Carlsbad to Olomouc. Many of the cities were based around heavy industry, but are now beautiful with squares, water fountains and many modern buildings.
Travelers’ favorites
Prague is the capital and one of the favorite places for US travelers to head to first. There are beautiful buildings, stunning architecture and many lovely rivers. For spas, head to Carlsbad, which is also popular with Russians and Germans. Using the hire car, head to the Bohemian Paradise and the spa town of Marianske Lazne, or go cross-country skiing at the Nove Mesto na Morave.
For skiing any time of year, head to the Krkonose. The monasteries, WWII concentration camps and Jewish ghettos are all interesting places to head to as well. If you have a fishing license, head to the Lakes under Palava, which are perfect to catch trout and perch, or to sail on.
Best time to go
The summer months from May to September are the best for US tourists, as the temperatures aren’t too cold. The winters are bitter and although the cities look pretty with a blanket of snow, temperatures drop way below freezing and aren’t really fun.
The Czechs are known for drinking beer, lots of beer, and there are many festivals in the summer that recognize this, similar to Oktoberfest in Germany.
