Car hire Cyprus

The gorgeous island of Cyprus, located in the Mediterranean Sea, is a very popular tourist destination for European travelers and those from America. The stunning island offers hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. There are mountains, beautiful beaches and some of the biggest party areas in the whole of the EU.

Although Cyprus is technically in Asia, the laws and regulations are European. Car hire in Cyprus is a great way to get around the island, from Akamas Peninsula through the Troodos Mountains and onto Lefkara. For American travelers, it’s best to compare car hire beforehand to sniff out the cheapest rental prices.

Travelers’ favorites

There are amazing architectural designs in Cyprus, from New Stone Age structures and as with many places in Europe, there are sites from the Roman Empire still standing. The Venetian walls of the capital city Nicosia are worth a look, but most travelers head to Cyprus for the pulsating nightlife of bars, restaurants and jumping nightclubs.

There are many UNESCO sites, such as the Hamam Omerye Bath, which have either been restored or are undergoing restoration. The Toodos Mountains offer the perfect place to get away from the cities and go hiking or mountain biking. Shopping in the markets and haggling hard with the local vendors is a must-do thing when staying in Cyprus. Expect shopping transactions to take at least 20 minutes.

Best time to go

The spring and summer months are the high season, when most travelers go there. During the winter, many of the bars and restaurants are close, and many towns and villages can look like ghost towns. The summer sees hordes of youngsters heading to Ayia Napa, which is the party capital of the island.

If you’re looking for a quieter time, just bypass Ayia Napa and head to the more traditional towns and cities.
