Car rental Bahrain

Situated at sea between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the rich island-nation of Bahrain is an interesting place to visit. To see the most of the country, compare car hire in the States before you leave to find the best prices. Renting a car allows tourists to explore the island from Muharraq in the north to lovely Al Wasmiyah in the west. Remember to carry your visa and US passport at all times, and add satellite navigation to your hire car, as there are few road signs.

Flights to Bahrain from the US may require a stop in London, Paris or the larger German airports, but the brief rest is welcomed as it breaks up the 15-hour journey. Car rental can be collected from the terminal buildings and are a great way to save from haggling with taxi drivers.

Island hotspots

The Bahrain fort is a stunning, restored defense structure that juts out of the northern coastline. It is free to enter and offers great views of the Arabian Gulf. Next door to the fort is a museum, which features many artifacts of Islam and the Dimun periods.

The Tree of Life is an interesting sight to see, as it is located smack in the middle of a desert. The cities offer excellent shopping opportunities, if you prefer not to venture into the desert, and there are souvenirs aplenty in the markets. Camel riding, the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix and championship golf courses all draw tourists there too, particularly from America.

Best time to visit

October to April is worth avoiding due to the intense heat and humidity. Temperatures can reach 110 degrees and upwards and the dry winds bring severe sandstorms, so visiting during November to March is a better time, when it can even be quite cool on a night time.
